    Projects

    2021

  • We completed geotechnical exploration for a new geothermal power plant pipeline project east of Fernley, Nevada. We will prepare a geotechnical report for the proposed new geothermal pipeline with geotechnical design and construction recommendations for the project including drilled pier foundations for pipe supports. Geotechnical design will include analyses of drilled pier foundations (deep foundations) for axial, lateral, and torsional loads.

  • We completed the field evaluation of premature rutting failure of pavers in northwest Reno. We will utilize our field findings to formulate engineering recommendations for repair/reconstruction of these street pavers to last for the intended design life. Our scope will also include bid support, review and inspection & materials testing during construction.

  • We completed geotechnical exploration (borings) for a large commercial project in the Spanish Springs area of Washoe Country. The project will ultimately include the design and construction of several retail buildings as well as a large warehouse-style industrial building. We are currently preparing a geotechnical report with geotechnical recommendations for the design and construction of the project.

  • Drilling exploration for a new project in Incline Village, Nevada.

  • Corestone Engineering, Inc. personnel observed the test drilling for soil nail/shotcrete stabilization of weathered bedrock cut slopes on the large 5 Ridges residential development project that is under construction in Sparks, Nevada. CEI is currently designing the soil nail/shotcrete walls that will have the primary purpose of stabilizing the exposed, globally stable, weathered bedrock cut faces. We are also preparing the plans for permitting and construction. We will also provide special inspection for this specialty construction. The principle engineer of Corestone was the lead geotechnical engineer involved in the preparation of geotechnical reports for 5 Ridges project that provide geotechnical recommendations for design and construction. As such, we have intimate knowledge of project geotechnical conditions to provide a sound and cost effective design. Only a few local geotechnical firms pose the expertise to provide specialty and complicated geotechnical design services for projects. Contact us for your projects need and we will work with you and apply our geotechnical expertise to find geotechnical solutions for complicated issues.

  • Geotechnical investigation and the final geotech report for the Chesapeake Spice facility building expansion project on Technology Way in Reno. The building expansion will be a tilt-up concrete panel structure with a footprint of about 80,000 square feet.

  • Preliminary geotechnical investigations of 2 parcels located on Britain Drive and Ireland Drive within Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center of Storey County, Nevada. These parcels will ultimately be developed into commercial projects with warehouse/office buildings and associated parking/driveway improvements.

  • 2020 - 2021: CEI is partnered with Atkins to provide construction engineering services to NDOT for full administration of 3R project on US 95 from Schurz to Fallon. For this project, CEI is providing a Level III Inspector, a Tester and a fully equipped mobile testing laboratory. This 3R project construction started around October 2020 and the construction is expected to ramp up starting March 2021.

2020 - 2021: Geotechnical consultation during construction of 2+ million square feet of aircraft parking and taxiway alpha reconstruction project at Reno-Stead Airport in Stead community area of Reno, Nevada.

2019 - 2020: Geotechnical investigation for 2+ million square feet of aircraft parking and taxiway alpha reconstruction project at Reno-Stead Airport in Stead community area of Reno, Nevada. Exploration included 40 borings and several pavement core holes. Laboratory testing including CBR, hydrometer, sieve analysis, insitu density, Atterberg limits and specific gravity. The project owner is El Dorado County and all the work is per Caltrans Standards. Exploration included borings, pavement corings, and borehole infiltration testing. Field work required extensive coordination with Caltrans, County and drilling and traffic control subcontractors. Geotechnical analysis and pavement design to develop recommendations for the design and construction of the project.

2018-2019: Geotechnical investigation for San Bernardino multi use path project in near Meyers community area of Eldorado County, California. The project includes a bike/pedestrian pathway connecting East San Bernardino Avenue and West San Bernardino Avenue including a 200 feet bridge crossing over Lower Truckee River. Extensive exploration and laboratory testing to develop geotechnical recommendations in accordance with Caltrans standards. Geotechnical analysis to develop recommendations for bridge foundations and retaining walls. Preparation of geotechnical investigation report to summarize exploration, laboratory testing, geotechnical analysis and recommendations.

2018-2019: Geotechnical evaluation of a failed shotcrete erosion protected slope on Oflyng Road in El Dorado County, California. Site investigation and laboratory testing to formulate geotechnical recommendations for a repair consisting of buttress segmental block wall or reinforced slope.

    2017 and Earlier:
    1. Geotechnical investigation for complete rehabilitation of 81-foot-wide right-away associated with Sierra Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe, California. The roadway extend from Palmira Avenue to Barbara Avenue and about 3,200 feet long roadway segment. The rehabilitation work includes the reconstruction of roadway, adding a bike trail on one side of the street, walking path on one side of the street, addition of street landscape and lighting improvements, and addition of storm water conveyance, treatment and infiltration features. The scope included field exploration, laboratory testing, geotechnical analysis and preparation of a geotechnical investigation report with recommendations for design and construction.
